Expectant parents facing an unplanned or unintended pregnancy should have accurate information about their birth options, whether that be parenting or adoption. It can be challenging to either offer information about adoption when expectant parents are focused on parenting or to raise the option of parenting for the parents focused on adoption. This session provides guidance on how to initiate such conversations, why it matters, and some of the pitfalls in providing birth options counseling.

• Describe important ethical considerations for discussing birth options with expectant and birth parents.
• Identify resources to support expectant and birth parents pre- and post-adoption
