Genomics in Adoption

This page is a description for a live webinar scheduled November 2nd, 2022. If you'd like to register for this conference, please return to this page once registration opens in September.

Within the adoption community, DNA testing is often completed in hopes of better understanding an adoptee’s medical situation to compensate for a lack of family medical history. It can also be used as a tool for search and reunion. In addition, the ease at which individuals can complete a DNA test has led to a rapid rise across the country. However, many adoptees do not understand the implications of DNA testing and the potential for risks and consequences that can follow. This panel will provide adoption community with guidance and discuss practices to ensure adoptees and their families are equipped to make this decision with long- and short-term consequences in mind.

State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. National Council For Adoption maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 04/13/2022 – 04/13/2023. Social workers completing this course receive 1 continuing education credit.

If you are a social worker licensed in New York, do not complete this course for contact hours. Instead, visit the NY course: here. This webinar does not offer credit for NJ social workers. The state of New Jersey does not recognize ASWB ACE continuing education provider level approval.

In order to receive their continuing education credit, attendees must participate in the entirety of the webinar training, have their attendance verified, and complete a course evaluation.
