Counseling Expectant and Birth Parents

This page is a description for a live webinar scheduled November 2nd, 2022. If you'd like to register for this conference, please return to this page once registration opens in September.

When faced with an unplanned pregnancy, expectant parents should have access to accurate information about the option of adoption, including opportunities to identify the adoptive parents, and how to communicate and plan for an open-adoption relationship with their children and the entire adoptive family. Often, those counseling expectant parents are afraid of raising the subject of adoption out of a concern for offending others. This session will provide guidance as to how to initiate these conversations and provide accurate information in an empowering, non-coercive manner.

Kris Faasse, LMSW, ACSW – Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations, Bethany Christian Services

Webinar length: 60 minutes

National Council For Adoption, #1804, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. National Council For Adoption maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 04/13/2022 – 04/13/2023. Social workers completing this course receive 1 continuing education credit.

If you are a social worker licensed in New York, do not complete this course for contact hours. Instead, visit the NY course: here. This webinar does not offer credit for NJ social workers. The state of New Jersey does not recognize ASWB ACE continuing education provider level approval.

In order to receive their continuing education credit, attendees must participate in the entirety of the webinar training, have their attendance verified, and complete a course evaluation. Upon completing these items, attendees will receive their course continuing education certificate of credit to the email address provided at registration.

The live webinar will also include an interactive time where attendees can submit questions for response in real-time. To participate in this live webinar, attendees must have the Zoom application downloaded to their device.
